As you plan your visit, you will want to know more about travelling to the Maldives under the new normal. Our resorts adhere to the Ministry of Tourism’s guidelines to ensure that your stay with us is exceptional, unforgettable and safe.

Everyone at Villa Resorts would like to thank you for continuing to choose us for your memorable holiday destination. Whether you are travelling to us for the first time or returning, we aim for your stay to be truly exceptional, unforgettable and safe.

To guide you prior to travelling to the Maldives, we have prepared the below information which we advise to read prior to travelling.

  • South Asia travel update

Effective from 15th July 2021 Maldives restarted issuing on arrival tourist visas for tourists travelling from South Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Villa Hotels & Resorts would like to take this opportunity to advise that we are welcoming all guests traveling from South Asia with no restrictions or quarantine at our resorts. We look forward to welcoming travellers again to our beautiful islands to experience unforgettable moments in the Maldives.

  • PCR tests before travel

For the safety of all, HPA Maldives have made it a mandatory requirement for all tourists including those who have completed the prescribed dose(s) of a Covid-19 vaccine to present a negative PCR test for Covid-19 prior to entry into the Maldives. The PCR test must be taken not more than 96 hours prior to departure from the first port of embarkment en-route to the Maldives. Children aged less than one-year-old (infants) are exempt from the aforementioned testing requirement.

Please note that upon arrival into the Maldives, those who exhibit Covid-19 symptoms will be required to undergo a PCR test at the airport. If you are travelling in a group, all members of the group must undergo a PCR testing.

  • Wearing masks at our resorts

As per HPA Maldives health and safety guidelines, all visitors are required to wear a face mask on arrival to the airport and during their stay at any of our resorts.

  • If you test positive for COVID while at any of our resorts

Villa Hotels & Resorts would like to take this opportunity to advise on the procedures should you become ill with Covid-19 at any of our resorts. If you start to feel unwell at any time during your stay at one of our resorts or experience any symptoms including shortness of breath, fever, loss of taste or smell or body aches and pains, you should inform the resort who will take a PCR test to determine if you have Covid-19. While waiting for your PCR test result to come back, you will be required to isolate in your villa until the resort receives the test results which usually take approximately 1-2 days.

As per the latest HPA regulations, should your PCR test result come back positive for Covid-19 while at any of our resorts, you will be transferred to a designated area at the resort where you will be taken care of during a 14-day quarantine period which is chargeable at the hotel published rates subject to each resort.

When you are notified of your positive result, you will be given the option to quarantine at the resort in a designated area or switch to Fun Island Resort, a Government approved quarantine facility. During your 14-day quarantine, a doctor will review you at least once a day and when you are found to be recovered and based on the doctor’s evaluation and HPA approval, you will be released from quarantine.

  • If you test inconclusive or negative for COVID while at any of our resorts

Should your PCR test result come back inconclusive, the resort will undertake a second PCR test to determine the result. While you wait for the result to come back, you will be required to isolate in your villa or at a designated area. If you are travelling with other guests who have tested positive for Covid-19 then you will be required to quarantine as well even if your PCR result is negative as you are considered a close contact.

If all parties travelling together receive a negative test result, then all guests can continue their stay at leisure, however each guest should observe physical distancing and wear a face mask around the resort. Should they be planning to depart the resort, they will be permitted to follow their travel arrangements accordingly.

  • PCR tests for departure

When departing from any of our resorts, when you require a PCR test for the country you are travelling to, you can take a test prior to the departure date. The PCR test is chargeable to the guest. Depending on the guidelines for the country that you are travelling to, you can plan to take your PCR test accordingly. Your PCR result will come back between 1-2 days. We advise you to check the latest travel updates for your required destination before travelling.

  • Travel insurance

We advise all travelers to always travel with insurance and check with your insurance company that they offer Covid-19 cover for the entire duration of your stay prior to travelling. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • CleanStay@Villa initiative

As part of our CleanStay@Villa initiative, we have introduced new health and safety measures throughout our resorts. Villa Hotels and Resorts CleanStay@Villa initiative ensures that we follow health and safety guidelines of the Maldivian Government and suggestions by the World Health Oganization, providing you with confidence and peace of mind while you stay with us. As part of these guidelines, temperature checks and screening measures will be carried out at the first point of entry for tourists, and anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will undergo a PCR test. These new measures are not only to protect our staff but to ensure the Maldives remains the world’s number one destination for years to come.

PCR tests are available in all of our resorts.
